The Maccabees

The Maccabees are a UK band whose members all came from south London, but they are now based in Brighton, Sussex. They have had a lot of success in the past year, and the good thing about them is it is hard to pin a label on their sound ! This track Pelican, is off their new album that came out in April titled Given To The Wild :

There are lots of new prints and colours in West Elm this Spring. Tropical birds and warm colours make up one story, and there is also a natural, nautical, sea life theme as well. All the colours blend really well with the neutral tones, the soft greys and the hint of yellow. Here are some of the innovative products in the store, and online at the moment :

Alabama Shakes

Brittany Howard, Alabama Shakes soulful, gritty voice, drives this southern bluesy band along. They are a band that are not doing anything amazingly different, it's just the way they grind the emotion out of songs that really works. They can rock, and then just slip into a soulful moody laid back mood that just hangs in the air.

Highland Row Antiques, Virginia Highlands, Atlanta

Sandwiched between Youngblood and the Atlanta Cup Cake shop in Virginia Highlands, is an antique store called Highland Row Antiques. Upstairs has lots of smaller retro pieces, and at the back of the store is a small staircase down into a basement area. When I say basement the area is HUGE ! It's opens out into several brick rooms that give it the feeling of an underground village. I will let the photo's speak for themselves, but the mix of old posters, reclaimed office furniture, paintings, pottery, lamps, and signs, is like a goldmine of all that is vintage and retro ! There were even a couple of Eames chairs !
