The next night in the Dublin O2 was a different story, this was their gig. Band of Skulls really got the crowd going and it's great to come across a new band like that ! That was how we first heard the Black Keys three years ago when they supported the Kings of Leon. The crowd literally went wild all through the Keys set, surging, jumping and singing their way through the set with the band. Again the sound was spot on, and the crowd reaction pretty much inspired Dan and Patrick to have as much fun themselves. It's great that a band does not need all the huge stage sets and props, their stage set is always pretty basic, though at the end for Everlasting Light they lowered a huge mirror ball from the ceiling that bathed the whole place in rotating multicored light. It was even great being right down near the front despite the wild crowd throwing themselves all over the place, that added a whole new dimension to the gig because it was all in good fun. If you can't beat em, join em !

The Black Keys
The Black Keys were excellent live last week ! They were the main support for The Foo Fighters at the Boucher Fields in Belfast, and the crowd loved them. The sun came out, the sound was great for an outdoor gig, and it was amazing how many in the crowd knew the songs. It was a shame they had to play a shortened set due to time constraints, but it was well worth the wait to see them !
It was so hard to get any photos, so glad these at least came out !

Band of Skulls : Sweet Sour
Band of Skulls turned out to be the opening act for the Black Keys at the O2 in Dublin on Wednesday night. Having seen the Black Keys at the Tennents Vital Festival on Tuesday, and loving every minute, it would be great to get the best possible place in the O2. So ending up right against the barrier at the front, and not having heard the Band of Skulls before, being this close was hopefully going to be a bonus. The three of them walked onto the sparsely equipped stage at 8.00 pm, the spotlights beamed down onto Russell Marsden (guitar and vocals) and Emma Richardson (bass and vocals) at the front of the stage, and on Matt Hayward (drums) seated at the back. Right from the off the crystal clear sound grabbed hold of the crowd, and held them in their moody grip right through the set, which seemed to fly by. The raucous masses loved them, definitely a band to look out for in the future !
A few of the photos came out okay :
