Majorelle Gardens & House Marrakech.

One of the highlights of the trip to Marrakech was a visit to the Majorelle Gardens, a 25 minute walk north west from the main Medina. They were designed and built by French painter Jacques Majorelle who moved to Marrakech in 1919. Pierre Berge and Yves Saint Laurent bought the gardens in 1980 and they restored them to their original splendour. Cobalt Blue is the predominant colour throughout with highlights of yellow, which blend amazingly well with the lush greens of the planting. After the craziness of the Souks and the Medina, this was a haven of peace and tranquility.

Boy and Bear Yeah !

Okay there are two clips of this song Big Man from Boy and Bear : The first one has amazing sound but no video with it. The second has a brilliant animation with it, but the sound is a little more muted. Anyway enjoy :

Music for the weekend : Matthew and the Atlas : I Followed Fires

Here is another band that just popped up out of the blue : Matthew and the Atlas. Don't know a lot about them but two of them went to school with Marcus and Ben in Mumford and Sons. This song is called I Followed Fires :

Okay going to make this a two for one ! It's hard to believe that there are so many bands out there we never get to hear about, it pays to look around iTunes ! This is another great song called : Deadwood

Crosby Stills & Nash : Marrakech Express !

All the time we were in Marrakech this song was going through our heads ! We never heard it once while we were there, but it almost inspired a return train journey to Casablanca ! Maybe next time ... 

I don't think they had promo videos when this first song came out, it is off their truly classic album Crosby Stills and Nash and called Marrakech Express :

Colours of Marrakech

The street markets of Marrakech are a blaze of colour, mainly from all the fabrics and spices on sale there. The sun shines pretty much all the time, and gives all the colours on display a real lift :

Labrinth : Express Yourself !

This has to be a great two weeks for expressing yourself, especially if you are British ! The Olympics have been amazing, both for the huge crowds of people turning to to enjoy them, and for the athletes giving their all in the quest for gold ! 

So we liked this track on Radio 1 this morning, it's by Labrinth and titled Express Yourself : 

Bronze Radio Return : Wolves

Bronze Radio Return, a curious name for a band, or is it ? Apparently singer / lead guitarist Chris Henderson spent hours as a child in his father's art studio, listening to all the joyful noises coming from the large bronze radio ! So when they formed the band, they wanted to return to some of those familiar sounds that they all grew up with. Knew there had to be a good reason :) !
